THERE ARE PLENTY OF ISLANDS TO VISIT FOR A DAY TRIP FROM ATHENS

You want a day trip to a Greek island .It is very easy to access them as all you need is a 20 minute trip to Piraeus port.

HOW TO GET TO THE PORT:

You can take the Metro green line. The ticket costs 1,40 and the trip is around 20 minutes. You can buy a ferry ticket directly from the booths at the port. During high season we recommend you buy a ticket before, as there is a possibility that they are booked.

iSLANDS TO VISIT:

AEGINA:

AEGINA: This island is located about 1 hour from the port making ideal for a day trip. In ancient times, Aegina was a rival of Athens during the era where Athens had great sea power. There have been multiple artifacts found there including, Minoan, the famous Aegean treasure, now located in the British Museum as well as Mycenaean art. There you can see the Temple of Aphae, the Monastery of Agios Nectarios and the Temple of Zeus Hellanios which is a 13th century Byzantine church.
Aegina is surrounded by beautiful beaches, restaurants and nightlife.

AGISTRI:

AGISTRI Only 10 minutes away from Aegina is Greek island of Agistri. This island is covered with pine trees giving you a breathtaking scenery. The most popular beach is Skala, while most residents live in Milos. This island can be reached from Aegina in just 10 minutes or 1 hour from the port of Piraeus.

POROS:

POROS: This island is about 1,5 to 2 hours from the port. It consists of 2 islands, Sphairia which is a volcanic island and Kalaureia which is the largest part. There is a small bridge that connects the two islands. Poros is extremely rich in vegetation. Archaeologist have discovered ruins from the Early Bronze Period. There you can also find the Sanctuary of Poseidon, beautiful scenery and beaches.

HYDRA:

HYDRA:The name comes from the Greek word Hydra which means water, a reference to the natural springs on the island. There is only one main town on this island which is where the port is. Hear is a strand of restaurants, shops and markets along the steep stone streets . There is also a Maritime Academy . No cars are allowed on this island so the transportation is by donkey, bicycle or foot.

SPETSES:

SPETSES: This island is known for where the rich meet the fisherman. You can see yachts next to old wooden boats. Another pine covered island there are almost no cars here as well. There are many coves and crystal clear waters making it a very popular tourist island. There is a weekend in June where there is a sailing race. The main event is the marathon that takes place, an international marathon 26klm around the island.
